No booze and only one hooker? What kind of party is this?

Whooo!
Futurama is, in my opinion, one of the three best sitcoms of the last decade (along with Newsradio and Scrubs for those of you keeping score at home). It’s sharp, inventive and consistently hilarious.

Until you’ve seen them all about six times.

Unlike omnipresent The Simpsons, Futurama doesn’t have 16 seasons worth of episodes to syndicate. Horribly mistreated by Fox, the series only lasted four years. With daily reruns in syndication it takes the Cartoon Network just a couple of months to work through the entire series and start over. Hardly a recipe to maintain the series’ substantial fan interest.

And then came the rebirth of Family Guy, and the people had hope. More than hope, in fact. In a recent interview for the Sydney, Australia Morning Herald, Simpsons and Futurama creator Matt Groening discussed the possibility of a television re-launch, DVD special or movie. Nothing is concrete yet and it would be premature to get too excited over the prospect of fresh material, but Groening appears confident it will happen. Clearly this is something more than rumor.

I really hope it is, anyway.
