Hustlers of the underworld aren’t honest? Who’d have ever guessed?

Washington’s self-proclaimed Mayor-for-life who really isn’t has always had a special connection with the people of the Anacostia ghetto. He feels their pain. He’s one of them. Years after Marion Barry’s political life appeared dead, it was the Ward 8 Anacostians who turned out en masse and resurrected him once more to a seat on the city council. So it came as some surprise to His Wonderfulness when on Monday night he was robbed at gunpoint. Apparently, two thieves who recognized Barry offered to help him carry a set of groceries from his car into his third-floor apartment and then, once in his kitchen, pointed a gun at his face and stole his wallet.

Said Barry of the incident, “There is a sort of an unwritten code in Washington, among the underworld and the hustlers and these other guys, that I am their friend…I was a little hurt that this betrayal did happen.”

Noooo. You’re kidding! Readers may feel differently, but personally I am absolutely shocked that people from the criminal element of the ghetto might be dishonest.
