WalMart as an independent local merchant

This is a photograph of the original Walton's Five 'N Dime store in Bentonville, Arkansas, predecessor of the largest corporation in the world today, WalMart. I found the photo, originally courtesy the Los Angeles Times, at Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space a very fine blog about urbanism and planning.

At this point I could launch into a spiel about the ironies of it all and bore everyone with a lecture about all the bad things WalMart is responsible for... but meh, you'd be reading BeyondDC if you wanted that sort of commentary. I just think it’s an interesting photo.
