Win/win synergies through journalistic dichotomy

Don’t you hate people who talk like that? But I’ve got to practice; I’m being Lumberg for Halloween.

Anyway. I actually do have a point here.

The professional media world has been struggling for some time with the blogosphere. Blogs are now a major source of information for many around the world. The major outlets know they can ill afford to ignore them. A lot of papers have hired their own bloggers while some of the more savvy publications have taken to running blog highlight pages inside each edition. So far, though, most of the professional attempts to plug into the blogosphere have been pretty lame.

Until now.

The Washington Post, which according to some media pundits has displaced the New York Times as America’s greatest national newspaper, seems to have struck on a winning formula. On its website inside each article there is a little box running a script powered by Technorati that displays all the blogs signed up for the service that link back to the article in question. The service is free, easy to set up and works like gangbusters. Check out this screencap from yesterday afternoon:
