It’s the apocalypse; have a nice day
Weirdest storm ever. That’s what we had in the DC area last night. First there was the lightening. It was constant, going off literally every two seconds or so. The bolts were clear and unmistakable, which is rare in our soupy local atmosphere, and they streaked across the sky horizontally, hardly ever striking ground. I’ve never seen such a charged storm, even in my years watching them roll off mountaintops onto the plains of Colorado. But for all the lightening, there was no thunder. Barely a hint. Standing on my twelfth floor balcony I could see flashes of electricity going off directly above my neighborhood, directly above my building even, but still not a sound of thunder. The contrast was eerie. Nor was there rain, nor wind, except in occasional gusts. The air was thick with water, though. As I watched the lightening crack above me, I could feel a cool mist of water brushing against my face. It felt, and smelled, like an ocean spray, even though the weather radar tells me this storm came from the west.
The topic of discussion among friends and coworkers this morning has been which apocalyptic disaster movie it most resembled, not whether it did at all. During the storm itself I was reminded of War of the Worlds, but one friend has mentioned The Core and several think it resembled The Day After Tomorrow. Regardless, something was amiss in the air of Washington last night. I’ve never seen anything like it.

We had plenty of thunder in Takoma Park!
Perhaps the government was testing a new weapon. ;-)
