Condi: Minister of Propaganda

Not so funny now
According to a story making the rounds in the European media but not yet the American, the State Department is under investigation by the Federal Communications Commission for planting fake news stories on television glorifying the war in Iraq.

The range of (Video News Releases) is wide. Among items provided by the Bush administration to news stations was one in which an Iraqi-American in Kansas City was seen saying "Thank you Bush. Thank you USA" in response to the 2003 fall of Baghdad. The footage was actually produced by the State Department, one of 20 federal agencies that have produced and distributed such items.

Who thinks this is acceptable behavior? Really. Anybody? We all watched the filmstrips in school teaching us about Joseph Goebbels. We all laughed at Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf. Even the most ardent conservatives and evangelicals must have a problem with this. Mustn’t they? Or do the ends justify the means if you’re a Republican?

Note: I realize the politics tag has been getting a lot of play lately. More diversity in posts soon. Promise.
