Joe Lieberman is a traitor

And not just to his party. Party loyalty is unimportant. I'm concerned about America itself.

On Tuesday the incumbent senator from Connecticut lost his party primary, but vowed to run in the general election as an independent. Never mind support for the war or views on national security. The story here is that Joe Lieberman is now willing to split the Democrat vote and turn a solidly Democratic seat into one the GOP can win. Lieberman running as an independent is the very worst scenario for anyone who wants Democrats to retake control of the Senate. It's not about Lieberman's politics at this point, with the GOP in control of every branch of government. It's a simple numbers game. Democrats need seats or the Republicans stay in control of every branch of the government.

Frankly, I wouldn't want the Democrats in control of every branch of the government either. Checks and balances are important, and by working against them in this manner Joe Lieberman is making it clear to the world that he values his own career over the health of American democracy.

Therefore I do not think it exaggeration to call him a traitor.

As is anyone who tries to label dissent as treason. Not meaning you - Dan. I'm referring to Liebs and the Veep amongst others.
