Shatner can act? Who knew?

I'm shocked. William Shatner has just won an Emmy. Repetitive cop and legal TV dramas bore me, so I haven't seen him on Boston Legal, but if Captain Kirk, the man... who... can't deliver... a line... without... lots of... awkward pauses, is winning Emmys, then there has got to be something wrong with the universe.

In other Emmy news, Scrubs (aka the only sitcom on network TV worth watching) lost to horribly overrated Everybody Loves Raymond for best comedy. At least Raymond isn't on anymore. Also, The Daily Show won for best variety show and best writing in a variety show (woooo!), though John Stewart lost to Hugh Jackman of the Tony Awards for best performance.

Boston Legal is not your average courtroom drama. For a while, we were taping it last season. James Spader, Shatner, and Candace Bergen are all very good. And Shatner is exceptionally funny! He deserved that Emmy. The universe is not screwed up. They are exploiting his eccentricities with his character. He plays a famous lawyer who is slowly losing his mind to dementia or alzheimer's or somesuch. He's an incredibly odd duck.

Sounds vaguely like Ally Mcbeal, which I enjoyed the first season or two… Until it got too preposterous and Calista Flockhart turned anorexic, anyway.
